We rounded up the best non-electronic (i.e. play quietly) educational toys for the kindergartners. Criteria for this age included developing fine motor skills and spatial ability.
1. Tegu blocks
Tegu has reinvented the wooden block in a way that brings new life to a favored classic. By safely embedding magnets into each piece, Tegu Blocks become curiously attractive for both kids and kids at heart. Get them here.
2. K’Nex Tinker Toys
Yes, just like you had as a child, only better. The new K’Nex Tinker Toys are super durable and won’t stretch out after lots of heavy use. The possibilities are endless with these sets and you will be rewarded with a nice bit of free time. Get them here.
3. Play-Doh
Or any type of modeling clay. The creative aspects of Play-Doh are endless. Roll, mold and extrude lots of fun shapes. Our only drawback: the cleanup and making sure those containers are sealed when they are done playing. Get it here.
4. Legos
We can’t think of much to say about legos that you don’t already know. However, we love the idea of buying the non-sets and letting children’s imaginations run with the possibilities rather than giving them detailed instructions to follow. You know, kinda like how we used to play with them in the, uh, old days. Get them here.
5. Thinkfun’s Balance Beans
With Balance Beans, kiddos can be introduced to math and logic in one engaging game. This is a one player game, so your young learner can play independently and learn basic balance equations. We call that a win-win! Get it here.
