‘Tis the season for accumulating more stuff. We battle to de-clutter our lives throughout the year, and then at holiday-time, the garage-sale inventory goes way up. Though the season of excess is in full swing, less can mean more to those on your gift list. Consider giving someone an experience, a little indulgence or a kind gesture instead.
Here’s our list of gift ideas that won’t add to the clutter in our lives.
1. Annual membership to your local museum, zoo or recreation center.
A membership to your local cultural facility or recreation center is a gift that keeps on giving all year. These make great family gifts since it’s something everyone can do together.
2. Tickets to the movies, a concert, the theatre, or a sporting event.
Seeing a favorite band or sports team can create memories to last a lifetime. Gift the gift of fun!
3. Gift cards – iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Etsy, etc.
Everyone loves gift cards. It’s like getting cash to spend at one of your favorite stores.
4. Travel vouchers.
Have any travel lovers in the family? This is the perfect gift for them!
5. Donate to a charity.
This is a great way to give a very thoughtful and meaningful gift to anyone on your list, especially for the person who has everything. Find a cause that is important to them and they will love it.
6. Lessons or classes – music, yoga, dancing, swimming, etc.
This is a great gift for kids or for an adult that has been wanting to try something new (like learn to play an instrument or take dance lessons).
7. Time at a spa – mani/pedi, massage or facial.
You can never go wrong giving the gift of pampering, who doesn’t need it? A mani/pedi for her, a massage for him, or maybe a whole spa day for both of you (away from the kids)!
