A small surfer makes big waves from ABC Open on Vimeo.
Quincy Symonds is quite possibly the world’s best 6-year-old surfer and skater. She started surfing less than 2 years ago and has quickly captured the attention of the surfing world. Quincy’s dad has been a surfer most of his life and his love of the ocean inspired her to get in the water.
What makes Quincy even more inspiring is she has been battling a serious medical condition her entire life. She has Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, a genetic disorder that affects her body’s ability to create cortisone, which means she is steroid dependent. Steroid dependency at her age requires medication three times a day. And in times of sickness, she needs intensive medical treatment.
But this doesn’t stop her. She dreams of being a pro surfer and skater and, with the way she’s going, she’ll most certainly get there.
