“Kids lose between 1-2 months worth of academic knowledge every summer.” For over a century, scholars have recognized that during summer vacation students’ rate of academic development declines relative to the school year.

An analysis of 39 studies conducted since 1978 found that, when out of school, students score lower on standardized math tests at the end of the summer as compared to their performance on the same tests at the beginning of summer.
