Be On Time and Get Your Kids to Bed, Minus the Chaos

iphone1

By Keri Stafford / The Mother List

I was so tired of the never-ending battle with my two high-energy boys (both under the age of 7) to get them out the door in time for school. Or trying to get them to leave the playground and to go upstairs to get ready for bed. The arguing, the whining, the pleading, the stalling…I couldn’t take it anymore! So I starting setting alarms on my phone:

7:45am alarm – means we need to be out the door for school
8:10am alarm – means we need to hurry up because the first school bell will ring in 15 minutes
4:00 pm alarm – means it’s time to leave the playground
7:10 pm alarm – means it’s time to go upstairs to get ready for bed

(I have more but they don’t all fit onto one screen.) Each alarm has a different sound so my kids know what each is for and when they go off, there’s no arguing, what needs to get done gets done. Are we living life by the clock? Yes. But I’d rather do that than spend my day in the battlefield.
